Yesterday was a bit foggy...

Guess what happened to me yesterday morning? I passed out. Literally. Here's the story: I woke up at 7:45 to get my godson Rory ready for school. He popped up when I did & asked me to turn on cartoons (oh to be young and easily satisfied by talking animals on the television so early in the morning). I said okay and told him to stay in bed & watch cartoons while I brush my teeth. I looked for the remote in my covers, but found it on the floor. Dont ask how it got there because I dont know. Anyway, I got up, leaned over to get it and felt dizzy. I thought I had just moved too fast, so I sat back down for a sec. When I got up again, I felt dizzy, lost my balance & fell back on my bed. On the way down, I knocked over my personal fan and small trash can. Yeah, it wasnt a cute fall at all. I was scared so I just stayed there for awhile. My godson was like "Whats wrong Nanny?" I couldnt give him an honest answer because frankly, I didnt know. And at the tender age

150 Days Later: Life After LSU

150 days ago, I received my Bachelors of Science in Apparel Merchandising from LSU. Seems like just yesterday I was sashaying across the stage (yes, I sashayed. It was my day and that stage was my runway) to receive my degree. The crowd erupted into thunderous applause as my former Historic Costume professor announced my name. Ok, so it wasn't the whole crowd. More like the twenty or so members of my family that showed up, but trust me, there was an eruption of applause. Watch the video for proof.                                                        LSU TAM CLASS OF 2012 What has happened in the 150 days since? Well, my previous post discussed the more negative aspects of the last 150 days. Now, I'll share all of the positive and fun things that have happened! The week I graduated I started grad school online at Liberty University. I am working on my Masters of Human Services with a Business concentration. I hadn't had a break since May 14th until last Frida

And then the bottom fell out...

May 18, 2012 was one of the best days of my life. I had finally finished my undergrad degree. I smiled so hard that day. I felt so accomplished and as if I had endless possibilities just lined up in front of me. I had no idea what I was going to do or where life was going to take me, but I was ready for it.                 Candid shot taken of me immediately after being asked after graduation "So, whats next?"     Just weeks after graduating, I was offered a job with a great company that had amazing financial and medical benefits. I was extremely excited about it and was looking forward to advancing with the company. I packed up my bags and traveled to Texarkana, TX (yes, it’s as exciting as it sounds) several times over five weeks. I spent 10-12 hours a day, five to six days a week in training and the rest of my time sitting in a Country Inn and Suites room eating microwave dinners or takeout while completing assignments for school that week. Oh, did I forget to me

Its Been Awhile...

Been awhile since I've written anything. But I did come across a poem I wrote a few years ago, that surprisingly is relevant to how I am feeling right now. Just thought I'd share.... Will you ever know of The desire I hold For you The fire that burns in My soul For you Will you ever know That at the sight Of your lips I long for your kiss And my hips Begin to gyrate And my body becomes So anxious That it can no longer wait For you And it begins to scream Out your name Need you to put out this flame Soul aching My mind is racing With thoughts Of you taking me ALL OF ME WILLINGLY Giving in to you… Only fearing you Would continue to Ignore my cry And Just let my passion die Because you don’t And may never know The desire I hold For you -Courtney's Secret by Courtney Lewis

Undergrad has come to an end...But its FOREVER LSU!

In June 2009, I made my triumphant return to college. After sitting out of school for nearly 4 years, I officially became an LSU Tiger. I walked on campus (got lost!) and felt proud to be there. I was so excited to begin my journey as a Fashion Merchandising major. I was ready to see what LSU had in store for me. Now, its May 11,2012 and I am officially done with my undergraduate degree. I took my very last final this week and I am now awaiting graduation (7 days!). Can you believe it? One week until graduation. Signing my Senior Checkout papers I still remember my very first class, Intro to Fashion Design. I learned about colors, sketching, and fashion figures. I even designed my first "line". I still have that project on the wall of my room.                                                                    My 1st Project During my time at LSU, I got to put my love of drawing and fashion to use, created business plans, designed bridal gowns, designed/set up a mer

Thank You For Your Opinion

Someone told me recently that they think my degree in Fashion Merchandising will be worthless once I graduate next month. They actually said the word WORTHLESS. Had that person told me that about a year ago, I would've started thinking "Is my degree worthless?" "Will I get a job?" "Did I waste my time/money?" However, I have been in such a good place recently that my response to that was "Thank you for your opinion." I did not let the negativity get to me. Instead, I put it in the same pile as the rest of the negative comments I've received in the last few years. If I listened to everyone that said something negative (i.e. "You're not going to go back to school" "Grad school is not an option for you", etc.) then I would be sitting at home, in my room, drowning in my sorrow like I was a few years ago when I was suffering with depression and an anxiety disorder. I was able to pull myself out of depression and funct

Spring Break Is Over...Now Finish Strong

I had 10 days of freedom recently! I was excited about doing absolutely nothing! I slept until lunch time just about every day. I enjoyed not having an alarm set. The only days my alarm was set were Sundays because I had to go to church. Spring Break doesnt mean Church break! Easter Sunday I got dressed up and attended noon mass. Much to my surprise, I saw my grandmother at that mass! After mass, I relaxed and ate some of the amazing meal of BBQ ribs, baked macaroni, green peas, and potato salad that my mom prepared. Overall, it was a good Easter and a good start to my Spring Break. As I mentioned in my previous post, my mind never lets me be completely lazy. Even though I slept until noon, within an hour of being awake I was usually writing posts for my fashion blog, working on school assignments, painting, cleaning my room or re-organizing my closets. My mind was going a million miles a minute! I got a lot accomplished, so I'm not complaining. My New Painting &

Good Friday, Good Mood & Good Life!

I’ve been a busy little bee these last couple weeks! There’s less than a month of school left (does happy dance) so the professors are starting to pile on the assignments. I haven’t gotten overwhelmed though. I finish assignments well before the time they are due and stay up on upcoming tests/projects. I refuse to let LSU stress me out in my final semester!                                                           (as of April 6, 2012) Besides school, I have been doing a lot of DIY projects as gifts or possible centerpieces for my graduation dinner party. I even made a #FreeSeanPayton t-shirt because of the bounty scandal!   I have spent a lot of time in Hobby Lobby and Jo-Ann Fabrics! LOL Doing those projects actually helped me to wind down after doing all my school assignments. I enjoyed the challenge of new projects and loved seeing my finished products.                                                            #FreeSeanPayton
