NYFW Fall 2012

Its fashion week in New York! They are currently holding tons of fashion shows and previews that are showcasing the trends for Fall 2012 Ready-To-Wear (they always show trends for the next season during the current season). The looks, colors, trends that we are seeing on the runways are early indicators of what we should see in stores once fall lines come out (around about early August). As someone that wishes they could put fashion in a tea cup and drink it every morning, I am absolutely excited about it all. I am on my phone or online constantly checking for photos or videos from the latest shows. Seriously, I’ve looked at photos/videos from over 30 shows in the last few days. You may call that crazy. I call it fun research.

I don’t only look at the pictures or videos just to say that I did. I look at the trends. I take note of the things that I am seeing a lot of and how they differ or look similar to what we are wearing now. I like to know what is “in”. I like to be able to give accurate advice when someone asks me what they should wear to some event or what the latest trends are. I get asked fashion advice a lot and I don’t want to give someone information that will have them stepping out in out-of-date fashion. That would be cruel.

Beyond trend watching, I am looking at these shows because I just love fashion. I get excited when I see an amazing show from one of my favorite designers. Words like ‘love”, “obsessed”, and “die” become huge portions of my everyday vocabulary during this time of year.  My passion for this industry becomes even more evident. I look at some shows over and over because I become so obsessed with the new looks. Basically, I lose my mind and go into a brief state of fashion insanity.

Since today is the last day and in order to save you from becoming overwhelmed by all of the fabulousness that is New York Fashion Week, I have pulled a few looks from my favorite designers that represent the trends that will be present in the fall. As well as pictures of things I just love, die for or have become obsessed with.

Looks That I Just Loved and Died Over

Catherine Malandrino
I am loving the sheer and leather panels and the color of this dress.

Alice + Olivia
This is a GOOD dress. *wendy williams voice* Its long, green , sparkly and has an open back. I DIE!

Marchesa
Snatch the sleeves off, throw on a birdcage veil, add a bouquet of pink roses and I would wear this for my wedding.

Ralph Lauren
Lets discuss the massive feathers that are giving me sophisticated drama! This is the definition of showing up and showing out!

There were a million other looks that I loved, but of course I couldn't share them all! So if you're interested in seeing more of the fashions from NYFW Fall 2012, you can check out style.com for all the latest photos/videos from the runway shows.

Thank You For Your Opinion

Someone told me recently that they think my degree in Fashion Merchandising will be worthless once I graduate next month. They actually said the word WORTHLESS. Had that person told me that about a year ago, I would've started thinking "Is my degree worthless?" "Will I get a job?" "Did I waste my time/money?" However, I have been in such a good place recently that my response to that was "Thank you for your opinion." I did not let the negativity get to me. Instead, I put it in the same pile as the rest of the negative comments I've received in the last few years. If I listened to everyone that said something negative (i.e. "You're not going to go back to school" "Grad school is not an option for you", etc.) then I would be sitting at home, in my room, drowning in my sorrow like I was a few years ago when I was suffering with depression and an anxiety disorder. I was able to pull myself out of depression and funct...

Undergrad has come to an end...But its FOREVER LSU!

In June 2009, I made my triumphant return to college. After sitting out of school for nearly 4 years, I officially became an LSU Tiger. I walked on campus (got lost!) and felt proud to be there. I was so excited to begin my journey as a Fashion Merchandising major. I was ready to see what LSU had in store for me. Now, its May 11,2012 and I am officially done with my undergraduate degree. I took my very last final this week and I am now awaiting graduation (7 days!). Can you believe it? One week until graduation. Signing my Senior Checkout papers I still remember my very first class, Intro to Fashion Design. I learned about colors, sketching, and fashion figures. I even designed my first "line". I still have that project on the wall of my room.                                       ...

I cant LYE, I love my Natural Hair

Hello, my name is Courtney and I used to be addicted to Creamy Crack. It was an addiction that lasted for years. Finally, about a year ago, I decided to kick that bad habit. Cold turkey. It wasn't easy, but I made it. I can happily say that I am finally natural and loving it!  The process of going natural is difficult. Anyone that tells you it isn't, is lying through their kinky curly head! Resisting the urge to perm is hard. There were many days that I would look in the mirror and just stare at my hair in pure disgust. I had a real love/hate relationship with my hair for a few months. Luckily, I have a live-in beautician (hey Kel-Bel!) that assisted me through the tough times. She was like my transition sponsor! She went through the process so it made my transition not as horrible as Ive heard they can be.                                        Me and my Naturally Beautiful siste...
